It is easy to love the people far away. It is not always easy to love those close to us. It is easier to give a cup of rice to relieve hunger than to relieve the loneliness and pain of someone unloved in our own home. Bring love into your home for this is where our love for each other must start. -Mother Teresa

almost home

trying this post from my phone:

W e are about a half hour from home and there are three sleeping girls in the back seat.

Her flight arrived a half hour early but we were there.

We stopped for lunch at buffet because that way she didn't have to order from a menu.  (That was suggested from other host families) She was overwhelmed but behaved totally polite the whole time. she ate plain noodles, cold ham from salad bar and a slice of pizza that she ate with a knife and fork. Not sure that helps us figure out her likes in the food department...

We tried talking with Google translate. It is obvious that sometimes it doesn't make sense. She is unable to write back because we don't have her language on the keyboard but she tried!

Next, stopped at target : bra and bathing suit shopping is  awful with language barrier. (In my opinion it is always awful!) It took a lot longer then expected and still no suit. Compromises and more compromises on stuff....ahhh....I am officially parenting a teen :)

size 7 shoes, medium shirt, small bottom around size 6 if you have things you want to pass along.
it is like 1 am her time so she is doing amazing!

She interacts really well with the girls and calls them by name. she can count to 8 and say thank you in English.

She had a tiny bit of panic when she saw on the calendar we had a hair cut scheduled. We got it worked out and will cancel it.

It is frustrating not to communicate easier but she is pointing to phrases on papers that have English and her language.

She has a great smile and we got to see it a few times today! Looking forward to seeing more of it.

She said her first flight was exciting and not scary.

  1. Laura, Thank you very much for the update. I got chills looking at the pictures of the host families being united with the children across the country today.

  3. Love the random details in this update! I am such a detail freak! I have some clothes that I would love to pass along. They would be hand-me-downs (not new) but nice. Is that ok- or are you supposed to supply new things only? Message me on FB.

    Praying for you! So exciting!
