Ever find something like this in your mailbox?
I didn't think so.
Maybe it is my middle-class Evangelical upbringing but it made me immediately feel guilty.
I was like, "Oh no! What did we do wrong?"
It really was a long letter reminding us of the laws and international consequences of not returning Di*na to her home country. We have already filled out, signed, and notarized forms saying that we completely understood this was just a hosting program.
The week of her arrival we also received an official email from her home country - reminding us of the same.
This hosting thing has lots and lots of rules. Some of them so crazy and specific you just know that there is an even crazier story behind them. I really enjoyed our day-long training because they went through so many of the "whys' for the rules. (For the record, that part was not sarcastic. I really did enjoy the training. If you decide to host, you will totally know what I mean when you attend.)
When we received this letter, it reminded me of the why they send it out: someone at sometime has not returned their host child. Someone loved that child so much they wanted to keep them forever. They couldn't handle the thought of sending them back to their sad life back in their home country.
For both countries to send so much official paperwork my guess is that more than just "someONE" has done this.
I don't get how much of an idiot you would have to be to think that it is a good idea to just keep a child and pretend nobody would notice!
I can tell you this for certain:Di*na will be flying back to her homeland on August 2nd. So our government, her government, and you can relax. Thanks to our official letter (our notarized form, official email, host manual, and training) we will not be kidnapping an foreign child!
Sure is a good thing they sent that letter!
