It is easy to love the people far away. It is not always easy to love those close to us. It is easier to give a cup of rice to relieve hunger than to relieve the loneliness and pain of someone unloved in our own home. Bring love into your home for this is where our love for each other must start. -Mother Teresa

Family Fun Goal: Nan's Fun Goal: See a Concert

We are little behind in getting our Family Fun Goal Posts up for the Year. Michael wrote this one for a goal he completed with Nancy back in January!

Nan and I both love music and we have made it a tradition to try to attend a Christian Music festival yearly called Winter Jam. One of their traditional stops has been the State Farm Center in Champaign and we have been able to go the past 3 years. As an added bonus, we have been able to meet up with our friends the Henry’s the past 2 years (they have been nice enough to save us seats the past 2 years even though it was suppose to be our turn this year...getting there early, often a challenge).

You pay $10 at the door per person and then you just head in and find seats where you can. It had 10 bands this past year and was headlined by the Newsboys. Most of the time, Nan and I know music by a majority of the bands playing, but this time, there were several bands that we were not that familiar with. Once again, we left the concert with new favorites and ringing ears!

Our tradition then is to stop by Applebee’s for a late night appetizer buffet and “rate” the bands. As great as the concert is, this is my favorite part of the evening. I just get to sit back and listen to Nan share what she liked about each band and see the excitement in her eyes. Even though we have similar tastes in music, we often come out of the concert with different bands we thought were the best. I love this tradition and I hope that we can continue to attend many concerts in the future!
