It is easy to love the people far away. It is not always easy to love those close to us. It is easier to give a cup of rice to relieve hunger than to relieve the loneliness and pain of someone unloved in our own home. Bring love into your home for this is where our love for each other must start. -Mother Teresa

Winter Hosting Day 23 (1/9)

Getting to use the Girls' Christmas Present!

If you remember, we didn't give the girls anyTHING for Christmas. We chose to give an experience instead. You can see them unwrapping the gift here.

We headed down that morning to French Lick, Indiana. Here is the thing, it is a beautiful drive UNLESS you get car sick. In that case it is tons of twisty curves that make you puke. Needless to say, N1 wasn't ready for lunch when everyone else was.

We tried a pizza buffet, which made everyone happy. Well, JoJo pointed out it wasn't Pizza Hut. A sad thing happened while we were there. N1 left the table to use the restroom. She was gone a while and then came back, calling across the restaurant to N2 LOUDLY in Russian. (This is something we are working on. For some reason N1 feels like when she speaks Russian, no one else can understand her so no one else can hear her. She does it often in usually quiet places like restaurants and oh yeah...church!) It turns out that the bathroom was labeled "Ladies" rather than "Women" and did not have a symbol. She could not figure out which door to use. (Things like this scare me for when it is my turn to be in their country and not know the language!) N2 sometimes gets tired of being her sister's interpreter. She wants her to just figure stuff out for herself like she did. I see both of their sides, don't you?  N2 answered like this, "English! English ask mom." Then ignored her. N1 just gets louder and I keeps saying can I help you?  In some ways I was like, help your sister! But in reality, I was so thankful for this opportunity to have her depend on me to meet her needs. I want her to know that I can do that. I want to do that. I will do that. This bonding thing is tricky!!! (This having a sister thing is tricky too!)

I debated on putting this pic out there because of how N2 is holding the balls. But it cracks me up every time I see it so I am doing it anyway! This is a little whirlpool-area.

A little competition....

Look at Jo's face. She is upset with something N1 is doing. Nan is frustrated with Jo but attempting to pose. N1 is concentrating on squirting strangers with water after taking it over from Jo without asking. N2 doesn't really care how anyone else is handing it. She is having a good time and will just ignore them.  (shh, i know their faces aren't that blurred but this is such and accurate portrayal of all of them.)

The hotel room had a little nook for the girls with their own TV. Jo slept on the top bunk for the first time ever. (She also had the most ridiculously loud gas ever...even in her sleep. This caused everyone to burst out laughing all night.) They bounced between eating, watching Disney channel, and swimming all night!

Big Splash Adventure is the name of the place we visited. They run great deals during their down times and sometimes have Groupon deals. We have visited two other hotels with water parks (not Wisconsin Dells) and in my opinion, this was the best. The water park part is a little smaller but the prices, amenities, and room where nicest.
