It is easy to love the people far away. It is not always easy to love those close to us. It is easier to give a cup of rice to relieve hunger than to relieve the loneliness and pain of someone unloved in our own home. Bring love into your home for this is where our love for each other must start. -Mother Teresa

Throw Back Thursday

Nancy and Stacey in 2013

During the summer of 2013, Stacey, who was then known as Nastya, spent 5 weeks with us.  We went out of our way to do some fun things but in general, she just hung out with us doing whatever we would normally do. That is all hosting is: letting a child or teen hang out with your family for a few weeks.

For you it is a way to be involved in international missions. For your kids it is a way to give them a new worldview. For the host child it is an opportunity to see how a healthy family functions, experience a new country, and learn English.

It isn't about adoption although sometimes it ends that way. This little girl with her hands held up while she screams her way down Frightful Falls for the 10th time that day wasn't expecting us to be her forever family. She just knew that her good behavior qualified her to be interviewed for the possibility to spend the summer on vacation in America.

You can look at the list of children who are interested in being hosted. You can read their short bios. You can decide who, if anyone, is a good fit for your family. There is absolutely no pressure to adopt, let alone host a child. If you think that this may be something your family should do, please visit:
